Description

Plot Summary

At the end of World War II, the small Dutch city in winter was covered in ice and snow, and the war made the entire city appear unusually gloomy. The little boy Michel (played by Martin Lakemeier) and his companions ran to play near the wreckage of a crashed plane, but were caught by the stationed German army. Fortunately, Michel's mayor father had a good relationship with the Germans, and he was soon taken home by his father. Uncle Ben's arrival excited Michelle greatly, but he warned him not to get involved in the war. Dirk handed him an envelope before setting off to bomb the German arsenal, but he was caught by the Germans during the operation. Later, Michelle opened the envelope and, based on its contents, discovered Jack, a wounded British pilot hiding in the woods. Michelle began to take care of him and help him escape, with the help of her nurse sister Erika (played by Melody Klaver). After Jack recovered, Michelle's several plans to help him escape ultimately failed. During this period, due to the murder of German soldiers, Michel's father was ultimately killed by the German army. Michelle had no choice but to turn to Uncle Ben for help, and Uncle Ben was willing to assist, but requested that Michelle no longer intervene in this matter. Michelle watched as Uncle Ben took Jack and his sister further and further away, recalling the entire events of this winter and discovering that Uncle Ben was a German spy hiding in his own home... This film can be considered a classic of war children and adventure themes, adapted from the novel of the same name by a Dutch author. This film was selected as the Best Film at the Rembrandt Annual Awards held in Amsterdam in March 2009.
