Plot Summary

In the 1920s, Algeria was an African country. In a small Jewish town, there lives the respected elder Sifa and his beautiful, kind, and just entering teenage daughter Zalabia. On the one hand, the elder regrets that his once lovely daughter is no longer innocent, and on the other hand, he worries that Zharabiya may be tempted by various non doctrinal things and go astray. On this day, a strange thing happened in the elder's house. His cat actually spoke up after eating a parrot. Lingmao is immersed in daily life and speaks fluently. To avoid any impact on their daughter, the elders prohibited the spirit cat from meeting its beloved owner, and even offered to undergo circumcision to become a member of the church. One day, a mysterious Russian youth suddenly appeared in the small town. His arrival brings more unknown experiences and impacts to this already lively town due to the presence of the spirit cat... This film is adapted from the original work of the same name by the famous French comic writer Euan Sfar and won the Best Animated Feature Award at the 2012 French Caesar Awards.
