Plot Summary

Paul Camp (played by Johnny Depp) is a disillusioned New York writer who comes to Puerto Rico to work as a journalist for a struggling newspaper and leads a life of drunkenness and dreams. He met the sexy and beautiful Chernot (Amber Heard) at the hotel and was immediately attracted to her. Real estate tycoon Sanderson (played by Aaron Eckhart) hired Camp to write advertisements and provided him with abundant money and material resources. Camp discovered that Chenault was actually the boss's woman, but still couldn't control himself and fell in love with her. Sanderson arranged for Camp to accompany Chenault, but Camp resisted the temptation of beauty and refused to elope with her. They came to an island to inspect properties, and at a cocktail party, the drunk Chenote danced with local men, which angered Sanderson. The next day, Sanderson announced the termination of his partnership with Camp and kicked Chenault out of his home. Camp took in Chenault and was determined to write the inside story of Sanderson's dark real estate deal, but the publishing house refused to publish it. He and his friends made a lot of money by fighting chickens in the market. When they came back with the money to prepare to print their own manuscripts, they found that the publishing house had already been auctioned off and the building was empty. Camp did not give up on his pursuit. Returning to New York, he successfully exposed Sanderson and became a journalist, living happily with Chenault.
