Description
Plot Summary
After giving birth to Prince Siddhartha, the queen of Shakyamuni, Lady Maya (voiced by Kiryu Sayuri), passed away to the heavens and watched the extraordinary son's journey of enlightenment. The tangible pain of birth, aging, illness, and death led the adult Prince Siddhartha (voiced by Hidetaka Yoshioka) to abandon his glory and wealth, entangle with love and desire, and travel around in search of the ultimate answer to life. During this process, he met the extremely self disciplined ascetic Dipa (voiced by Keiji Fujiwara) and the cheerful and open-minded young man Ashoshi (voiced by Miyuki Sawamura) who had a short life. They went to the famous ascetic forest in an attempt to find liberation by torturing their body and mind. At the same time, Prince Ruri of Khazaro (voiced by Yoko Maki), who was burdened with great humiliation and hatred due to his background, vowed to eliminate all Shakyamuni races, and to this end, he spared no effort in imprisoning and torturing his biological mother, who also came from the Shakyamuni kingdom. On the eve of Buddha's enlightenment, the beginning of a great story... This film is adapted from Osamu Tezuka's manga of the same name.
