Plot Summary

In a bustling and hurried corner of the city, an ordinary woman named Terako (played by Sakura Ando) sleeps all day long. She has been dating Iwanaga (played by Shinichi Inoue) whom she met in the workplace for a long time. Iwanaga is a married man, and his wife has been bedridden for years as a vegetative state. The gentleness of the female relatives prevents him from leaving, while his desire for love and freedom has kept him in an unrequited love with Terako for many years. Terako, whose social circle is extremely monotonous, had a friend named Shiori (played by Miyuki Tanimura) before. After graduating, Shiori repeatedly stayed at a friend's house and later engaged in a strange profession of accompanying others to sleep. However, she eventually committed suicide for unknown reasons, which left Terako puzzled. Guilty, embarrassment, longing, and exhaustion, Terako and Iwanaga barely maintain their current relationship, and unconsciously she loses her direction in sleep... This film is adapted from the short story of the same name published by Yoshimoto Banana in 1989. It is known as the "trilogy of sleep" along with "Night and Night Traveler" and "An Experience".
