Plot Summary

In Ireland, Raymond Barry (played by Ryan O'Neal) grew up living with his mother at his uncle's house and later fell in love with his cousin Nora. Nora's father wanted to betroth her to an English general named John Quin. So Barry challenged Quin to a duel, in which he shot Quin, mistakenly thinking he had killed him, and hurriedly fled his hometown. On the way, he was robbed and had no choice but to join the British army. He only found out in the army that Quin had not actually died. Barry escaped from the British army but joined the Prussian army. After the war, he became a confidant of Prussian officer Potzdorf and was tasked with monitoring an Irish spy in Prussia. Barry, on the other hand, sympathized with this Irish knight, who took him to casinos and reaped great rewards. Barry felt that he should find a wealthy woman, so he set his sights on Lady Lyndon, the wife of Sir Lyndon. Sir Lyndon fell seriously ill and passed away. One year later, Barry married Lady Lyndon and became a nobleman, changing his name to Barry Lyndon. But Sir Lyndon and Lady Lyndon's son Bullingdon did not like Barry very much, and Barry also had a premonition that his future would be destroyed by Bullingdon's hands ....
