Plot Summary

Song Shijie (played by Stephen Chow), nominated for Best Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress at the 12th Hong Kong Film Awards, is a famous figure from the Qing Dynasty. His outstanding eloquence and abilities allowed him to criticize high-ranking officials in the yamen and defend many people's rights. Even though he was dissatisfied with the corruption and darkness of the officialdom at that time, he still took a lot of bribes, some of which were dishonest money, and all of them were repaid to his own sons, who couldn't even raise more than ten sons. His wife (played by Anita Mui) insisted that he stop writing for the sake of the child in her womb and not make a big fuss anymore. Although Song Shijie was extremely unwilling, he still agreed to his wife's request. My wife encountered a widow (played by Wu Jiali) who was full of grievances.
