Plot Summary
Seven years ago, Jack (played by Richard Gere) abandoned his pregnant wife Laurie (played by Jodie Foster) to participate in the American Civil War. For 7 years without any news, Laurie took on the responsibility of taking care of the child and the family. One day seven years later, Jack suddenly appeared. And at this point, Jack was no longer rude and harsh, as if he had changed into a different person. He, who was originally a landlord, worked diligently with the villagers to improve their living standards. But soon after Lao Ruichu felt this sense of happiness, things changed. Jack was charged with a murder case and the authorities wanted to arrest him. The silent Jack did not resist and accepted the arrest. In fact, this is a fake Jack, he is the teacher friend of the real Jack, and the real Jack has already passed away. Fake Jack is willing to bear the blame because he wants to keep Jack's best side in everyone's hearts
