Description

Plot Summary

In the early 17th century, after a long period of conquest and annexation, Japan's Warring States period came to an end and entered the era of Tokugawa shogunate rule. Peace has arrived, replaced by a large number of warriors who have been displaced and forced to make a living. During this period, some ronin requested to have a caesarean section performed in front of a prominent family to save face, some were retained as a result, and some received material assistance, but among them were some petty criminals who used this as a means of extortion. One day, the famous Ii family welcomed a young ronin named Qianqianyan Qiunu (played by Eita). In order to prevent this evil trend, the Ii family pretended to be true and forced Qianqianyan and his disgraceful way to die tragically. I thought this would deter the extortionists, but little did I know that soon after, another middle-aged warrior named Tsugumi Banshiro (played by Ichikawa Hisashi) came to seek death... This film is based on the novel "Strange Tales of the Wanderer" by Yasuhiko Takuchi, which was adapted to the silver screen by the famous craftsman Masaki Kobayashi in 1962.
