Description

Plot Summary

In the 1970s, this was an absolute disaster blockbuster. Looking at it now, one can't help but think of 9/11. Overall, it's good, but some of the shots in the ending were not handled well. Overall, it's three and a half stars, and the IMDB rating is quite accurate. Architectural designer Doug (Paul Newman) hopes to put aside work and start his long planned journey when his designed skyscraper in San Francisco is completed. However, at this time, an alarm signal comes from the main warehouse. With the assistance of Harry from the building command center, Doug finds out that the safe terminal cabinet is not insulated and the electrical circuits of the entire building are far from meeting his design requirements. Building builders Duncan and his son-in-law Roger lowered the building's fire safety standards in order to save on construction costs. Duncan and a group of celebrities from all walks of life gathered at the 135th floor ballroom to celebrate the completion of the building. The overloaded electrical system finally caused a fire, and Doug and the fire chief Mike (played by Steve McQueen) who came to put out the fire urged Duncan to evacuate the crowd. The fire in the skyscraper with inadequate fire-fighting facilities quickly became difficult to control. Firefighters Doug, Harry, and Mike did their best to rescue the crowd, but the raging fire seemed to devour everything
