Plot Summary

A group of engineers arrived in a small village in Kurdistan Province, Iran. The villagers were discussing and curious about the purpose of the sudden arrival of these outsiders. Although feeling unfamiliar, the villagers still showed a friendly welcome to the guests. One of the engineers is very interested in everything in the village. He followed the children in the village to check around every day and noticed an old lady who was sick, so he kept asking about her condition. Because wireless phones are needed to communicate with headquarters, and the signal in the village is poor, engineers have to go to the cemetery on the mountain to answer every time. On the mountain, he found a villager who was always digging a pit alone. Curious, he often went up to chat with this villager. Suddenly one day, the smooth days like the wind changed. The pit dug by the villagers on the mountain collapsed and buried them alive. The doctor went to rescue the villagers and found that the old lady was also critically ill. Faced with the passing of life, engineers are deeply saddened. This film won the Special Jury Prize at the 56th Venice Film Festival.
