Description

Plot Summary

Swedish doctor Anton (played by Mikael Persbrandt) works year-round in refugee camps in Sudan, facing the pain and death caused by armed violence every day; On vacation, he flew back to Denmark and took turns taking care of his two sons with his estranged wife Marian (played by Trine Dyrholm). The boy Christian (played by William Jhnk Nielsen) moved from London to Denmark, and his mother's passing caused him to feel estranged from his father. In his new school, he met Anton's eldest son Elias (played by Markus Rygaard), who was discriminated against and bullied by his classmates due to his Swedish identity. Christian teaches Elias to use violence against violence, and two boys from broken families become friends. Anton went out for a trip with his two sons and Christian, but was repeatedly slapped and humiliated due to a misunderstanding. Anton insisted on resolving this matter with a tolerant and accommodating attitude, but it was not understood by the children. After discovering the gunpowder in the warehouse, Christian began to encourage Elias to join his dangerous revenge plan. At this time, Anton, who had already returned to Sudan, was experiencing a moral torment in his heart because he had treated a local tycoon who was full of evil... The film was originally titled "The Revenge" and later renamed "In a Better World". In 2011, it won the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 68th Golden Globe Awards and the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 83rd Academy Awards.
