Plot Summary
A room, two uncles, a deep debate, a stage play style TV movie, and short yet profound life and death propositions and struggles. If it weren't for the name of the screenwriter of "No Country for Old Men" and the thrilling scenes of Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson, two of Hollywood's most famous cowboys and gunslingers, I don't know how many people would be interested in "The Sunset Train". However, it is HBO's TV movie masterpiece this year and is also expected to become a popular show on the Golden Globe and Emmy Awards next year. The Sunset Train "is adapted from the novel and play script of the same name by renowned American author and playwright Mike McCarthy, who won the Pulitzer Prize. The story is full of black humor and profound silence and sadness, and has a sense of a stand up stage play. The story tells of two ordinary anonymous individuals, who were given only the two code names "black" and "white" in the original work. They are completely different strangers: a black religious believer and an atheist white professor. Before the plot unfolds, a black person saves a white person who is about to commit suicide from the platform of the Sunset train. The rest of the content is focused on an ordinary apartment in New York. The two are in a desperate environment, discussing and colliding with each other about religion, life, death, and whether white people commit suicide. They fiercely debate whether there is enough reason to believe in God from different perspectives, and what is the difference between a true believer and a sinner who just wants redemption. Behind the scenes production: This HBO television film is directed by Tommy Lee Jones and written by Michael McCarthy. This is not the first collaboration between the two, and the last time they worked together was in the classic work of the Coen brothers, "No Country for Old Men". Bringing the works of Cormac McCarthy (2008 Nobel Prize winner in Literature) to the screen is a daunting task for most people, and Tommy Lee Jones has already mastered it by starring in the 2007 novel "No Country for Old Men" (adapted from Cormac McCarthy's novel of the same name). Therefore, when he decided to adapt this literary giant's suicide themed screenplay novel 'The Sunset Has End', he called McCarthy for permission. This famous reclusive writer sent his blessings and even went to the set to visit. The director of this HBO film (premiered on February 12, 2011), Samuel Jackson's co star, Jones, said, "Cormac spent a lot of rehearsal time with us, which was a great experience for Sam and me, but not for others because I didn't let anyone else get involved. Well, (I did invite) some people from HBO, but they can only sit cross handed against the wall
