Plot Summary

Rome, summer, a group of tourists shuttling through it. This breathtakingly beautiful ancient city is tempting them in a mysterious and cold manner, making people willingly capture and immerse themselves in this exquisite and despairing beauty. However, in the eyes of Giuseppe Gambardilla (Toni Servillo), Rome is a lonely city. At the age of 65, Jabil is a successful journalist with a graceful and charming demeanor. A literary work written in his youth brought him both fame and fortune in his early years. He tossed and turned among various reckless extravagance and the clinking of glasses in society, using a pair of cold and almost numb eyes to witness the emptiness and secrecy behind this stunning city. When the soprano's aria resounds again, Jabil, who wanders between civilian life and upper class society, begins to rediscover the memories of her lost youth. Only the city of Rome still retains her indifference and splendor, unchanged. This film won two awards, Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards in 2014 and Best Foreign Language Film at the 71st Golden Globe Awards in 2014, and was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 66th Cannes Film Festival in 2013.
