Description

Plot Summary

In 1952, Ireland had a conservative social atmosphere. The teenage girl Philomina (played by Judi Dench) became pregnant due to her unmarried status and was sent by her family to a monastery to engage in forced labor, spending only one hour a day with her beloved son Antony. When Anthony was three years old, he was forcibly taken away by nuns and sent to a foster home in the United States. For the next fifty years, Philomina was immersed in the longing for her beloved son. She told the story to a journalist named Martin (played by Steve Coogan), who decided to embark on a journey to find her son with her. This seemingly impossible duo, with distinct personalities, embarked on an adventure between hope and loss, not only as a loving mother searching for her child, but also as a witness to crossing friendships. Philomina slowly learns about her son's extraordinary life and little-known secrets. Can her delayed love be passed on to the long lost Anthony? Philomena "is adapted from BBC journalist Martin Skewsmith's documentary" Philomena's Lost Child "and is based on real events. The movie revolves around a mother's cross sea search for her child half a century later, packaging a tragic story with a comedic appearance, touching people with laughter and tears, and giving appropriate weight to topics such as homosexuality, AIDS, and homophobia. Philomena won the Best Screenplay Award at the Venice Film Festival and the highest LGBT honor, the Brokeback Lion Award. In addition, it received four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
