Plot Summary

In the autumn of 1942, the most brutal war in human history broke out on cold land. The Germans crossed the Volga River and arrived at the opposite bank of Stalingrad to defend themselves. The Soviet Red Army engaged in a battle for cities with their opponents, with both sides fighting back and forth. The cities turned into ruins and scorched earth, with thousands of people dying. Looking around, it looked like a hell on earth. In a counterattack, the Soviet army suffered serious casualties, and only the reconnaissance team led by Captain Gromov (Pyotr Fyodorov) reached the opposite bank and occupied a dilapidated building. They discovered a 19-year-old girl named Kaja (played by Mariya Smolnikova) inside the building. Kajia's parents had already died in the war, and due to their attachment to the city and home where they grew up freely, the girl held onto this place, numbly shuttling through the flames of war. Given the extremely important location of the building, the war weary German officer Peter Kahn (played by Thomas Kretschmann) was ordered to retake the stronghold.
