Description
Plot Summary
The film tells the legendary story of the Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang, who traveled to India for 17 years without fear of difficulties and obstacles to obtain Buddhist scriptures. During the prosperous period of the Tang Dynasty's Zhenguan era, the young monk Xuanzang (played by Huang Xiaoming) risked his life to sneak out of the country in search of the true essence of Buddhism. Along the way, he encountered numerous obstacles, including natural disasters and man-made calamities, but also suffered greatly from the suffering of the people. Surrounded by officers and soldiers, betrayed by disciples, buried in the sand and sea, and cut off water and food, Master Xuanzang devoted himself to seeking the Dharma and eventually arrived in India, where he promoted good intentions and focused on cultivating Buddhism. By the time he successfully returned home from the open debate, he was already over fifty years old.
