Plot Summary

Chinese American woman Zhen (played by Zheng Peipei) and her son Kai (played by Andrew Leung) rely on each other and immigrate from Phnom Penh, Cambodia to London, England. She, who is not proficient in English, has always relied on her son as her eyes and ears, and his son is her everything. However, she was unaware of Kai's sexual orientation and even thought that Kai and his cohabiting British man Richard (played by Ben Whishaw) were just "roommates" for a long time. After Kai passed away in a car accident, helpless Jane had to start getting in touch with Richard, and thus began to browse through the unknown scenes of her son's life. An old man and a young general face the life of losing their loved ones together, even if they cannot communicate through words. Gently Shaking "is jointly invested and produced by the British Microwave Film Fund and BBC, and is the first feature film by Asian director Hong Hao. His cultural background adds a touch of Eastern charm to this British film. 'Gently Shaking' won the Best Cinematography Award at the 2014 Sundance International Film Festival.
