Description

Plot Summary

In 1972, a mountain village in Qingdao, Shandong welcomed an unusual guest. The commissioner from Beijing came here to select children with dance qualifications, and 11 year old Li Cunxin was fortunate enough to be elected. He took the train to Beijing and arrived at the Central 57 Art School. After seven years of closed and rigorous training, he grew from an underachiever who initially did not enjoy ballet to an excellent dancer. During this period, the world outside was constantly changing, and artists in ivory towers could easily feel the slightest change. In 1979, the Houston Ballet invited Li Cunxin to the United States as an exchange student. He stepped onto this unfamiliar land and deeply felt the huge collision between his old beliefs and the material and spiritual civilization of capitalism. As time passed, Li Gan was summoned by freedom, art, and love, and decided to stay on this land... This film won the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 2009 S ã o Paulo International Film Festival.
