Description

Plot Summary

On October 14, 1962, intelligence information revealed in a photo taken by a U-2 reconnaissance aircraft flying over Cuba triggered an unprecedented crisis between the world's two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union. US intelligence officials have found in this set of intelligence data that the Soviet Union is building a base in San Cristobal, located less than 150 kilometers southwest of Havana, the capital of Cuba, less than 150 kilometers from Florida. They are deploying medium to short-range missiles and Il-28 heavy bombers carrying nuclear weapons, which are capable of destroying major cities across the United States and causing significant casualties. The United States is plunged into extreme panic, pushing the entire world to the brink of a nuclear disaster. President John F. Kennedy (played by Bruce Greenwood) and his brother Robert Kennedy (played by Steven Culp) calmly deal with the imminent nuclear crisis. Through the eyes of White House senior special assistant Kenneth O'Donnell (played by Kevin Costner), the film reproduces the shocking thirteen days of crisis.
