Description

Plot Summary

In the late 1940s, the accomplished young banker Andy (played by Tim Robbins) was imprisoned on suspicion of killing his wife and her lover. In this prison called Shawshank, hope seems elusive, and the punishment of life imprisonment undoubtedly destined Andy's bleak and desperate life ahead. Not long after, Andy tried to approach Red (played by Morgan Freeman), a well-known prisoner, and asked him to help him get a small hammer. Taking this as an opportunity, the two gradually became familiar with each other, and Andy seemed to find his own way of survival in a prison where fish and dragons were mixed, crime was rampant, and black and white were confused. He used his professional knowledge to help the prison management evade taxes and launder money, while gradually receiving treatment among prisoners through his interaction with Red. On the surface, he seemed to have transformed from hatred towards the high wall to calmness, just like Red did, but his desire for freedom still drove him towards his hopes and goals in his heart. And the truth about his crimes seems to have pushed everything forward even further... This film is adapted from the original work of the famous writer Stephen Edwin King.
