Description

Plot Summary

In 1839, the Amistad, which was transporting black slaves, encountered a storm on the ocean. The black slaves took advantage of the chaos and rebelled, killing the crew. After taking control of the Amistad, they attempted to sail back to their hometown. However, six weeks later, they accidentally arrived in the United States. The 44 surviving black slaves were arrested by the US military and will face charges of murder. At this time, the Queen of Spain requested the extradition of these black slaves belonging to Spain from the President of the United States; Two naval officers also claimed that black slaves were their spoils of war; Someone else presented proof of purchasing these black slaves in Cuba. At the time of the dispute, one of the leaders of the abolitionist movement and also the head of the shipping company, Jodson (played by Morgan Freeman), and his friend Tapean hired lawyer Roger to prove that these black slaves came from Africa, in order to seek their freedom in the context of deeply ingrained abolitionist beliefs
