Plot Summary
In 1898, silver miner Daniel Plainview (played by Daniel Day Lewis) broke his leg in a downhole accident, but he was fortunate enough to learn secret oil information. He used the mute boy HW (played by Dillon Freasier) to deceive the villagers and win the oil territory, and thus rose to fame. However, becoming an oil tycoon did not bring him happiness. HW's resentment towards him grew day by day, and his only adopted brother was actually a fake. Missionary Eli Sandy is just a small person who uses religion to deceive people. In a mining accident, Daniel's workers unfortunately lost their lives. Just as he was hoping for Eli (played by Paul Dano) to lend a helping hand, the other party humiliated him, and the two began to fight openly and secretly... This film is adapted from the novel "Oil", and director Paul Thomas Anderson won the Silver Bear Award for Best Director at the 58th Berlin Film Festival for this film. Daniel Day Lewis won the Best Actor award at the 80th Academy Awards.
