Plot Summary

This drama is adapted from James M. Cain's classic black novel of the same name, 'noir novel'. During the economic recession, Miranda (played by Kate Winslet) lost her job due to deception from her husband Bert (played by Brian F. O'Byrne). In order to ensure the happiness of her two daughters and alleviate the family's financial problems, Miranda left no stone unturned and separated from Bert to find her own way out. After a difficult search, Miranda got a job as a female waitress. On one hand, she was worried about her livelihood, on the other hand, she was worried that the job would not be able to maintain their middle-class status. But what was even more worrying was her relationship with her eldest daughter, Vila (played by Evan Rachel Wood), who was ambitious and looked down upon her mother's job. Afterwards, Miranda went through many struggles and finally succeeded. She opened a chain store and restaurant, gained social status, and her daughter enjoyed the indulgence brought by her mother. However, the relationship between mother and daughter became increasingly delicate and deteriorating, and a murder case brought all the contradictions to the surface .....
