Description

Plot Summary

One day in 2004, the judicial ronin Kentaro Saburo (played by Haruma Miura) learned at his grandmother's funeral that he had no blood relationship with his grandfather Kenichiro (played by Isao Natsumi), and that his true grandfather Hisashi Miyabe (played by Junichi Okada) had already died in the Kamikaze Operation at the end of World War II. Shortly thereafter, Kentaro was summoned by his sister Keiko (played by Ichigo Kiriishi) to investigate the deeds of the Imperial Navy. They visited the former comrades of the Imperial Navy, but many people criticized his grandfather as the "first coward of the Imperial Navy". Even when he watched his comrades sacrifice during his mission, he never got involved in the war situation. The evaluations of the veterans dealt a heavy blow to the siblings, but as the investigation deepened, they discovered that Miyamoto possessed the highest flying skills. He deeply loved his wife (played by Mayo Inoue) and daughter, and vowed to return to his family no matter what. Firmly holding onto this belief, Gongbu is willing to give up the dignity of an imperial man, and his way of dealing with things unconsciously influences his comrades in all stages. Accompanied by the stories of the veterans, Kentaro watched as his grandfather welcomed his final moments... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Uesugi Momota.
