Plot Summary

This series is based on the famous novel by Alan Furst and adapted by Emmy Award winning screenwriters Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. In 1914, the entire Europe was shrouded in the shadow of Hitler's Nazi regime. Colonel Mercier (played by David Tennant), who received a high medal during World War I, was stationed in Poland as a military attach é. The colonel obtained intelligence from his German informant Edvard, suggesting that Hitler and the Nazis were secretly planning an invasion of Poland. Mercier was almost killed while on a mission and managed to escape with great difficulty. However, French bureaucrat Jourdain has a deep prejudice against Mercier, fearing that Mercier's actions will affect the diplomatic situation and further escalate tensions. Paris lawyer Anna (played by Janet Montgomery) and Mercier also develop feelings for each other during this dangerous period. But Anna also has an inseparable relationship with her husband Maxim, who works as a political journalist. The entangled relationship between the three individuals also became increasingly tense as the war began .....
