Description
Plot Summary
The story takes place in 1963, during the Cold War, when the mute woman Elisa (played by Sally Hawkins) works as a cleaning lady in a government laboratory. When she was young, a serious illness took away Elisa's voice. From then on, she has been living a solitary life in silence, with only her landlord (Nick Searcy) and colleague Zelda (Octavia Spencer) as her friends. One day, a highly alert alarm was sounded in the laboratory, and a mysterious jar filled with water was brought in. Elisa was shocked to find a strange creature, half human and half fish, locked in the jar. Under the leadership of Richard (played by Michael Shannon), a team of scientists aims to extract substances from this monster that can be used to create biological weapons. However, in Elisa's eyes, it is just a lonely living organism like herself. As time passed, Elsa and the monster unexpectedly developed feelings for each other.
