Description
Plot Summary
This story is set during the Nantes workers' strike in 1955. Steel worker Buck Guilbaud was one of the strikers. He rented a room from Margot Langlois, and a widow sympathized with the strikers even though she was from high society. He has a pregnant girlfriend named Violet Peltier, who is becoming increasingly unattractive and giving up. When he tried to defend his actions, she felt more unfairly treated. He met Edith Leroy, a beautiful working-class girl who unfortunately married a wealthy but incompetent and neurotic businessman, and a part-time prostitute. He didn't know she was a widow's daughter. The first time he met her on the street, she appeared in his room one night, wearing only a fur coat. They immediately fell in love, but their great passion only lasted for one night, when he was shot by the police and died in Edith's arms during a demonstration.
