Plot Summary

The film reviews a bloody experience on the Eastern Front in 1943 from the perspective of the German army, revolving around a war weary veteran and a noble officer whose life goal is to obtain the Iron Cross medal. The several battles between the two represented two different mindsets in the German army at that time, and also revealed the ultimate direction of the war... In 1943, on the German battlefield, German Captain Strelsky had just been promoted to captain and was determined to win the highest honor in the German army, the Iron Cross.
