Plot Summary

Takeshita Zongji (played by Ogata Kuni) and his wife Ame (played by Iwashita Shima) run a printing shop in Kawagoe City. In his early years, business was booming, and Zongji lied and secretly provided for a female bartender named Meidai (played by Mayumi Ogawa) outside. Over the course of seven years, Meidai gave birth to three children for him. However, due to the sudden fire and the collapse of the large printing factory, Zongji's printing shop deteriorated and he was unable to support Meidai and his children anymore. Mei Dai, who had lost her source of livelihood, couldn't bear it anymore. She came to her door with her child and after a quarrel, she left the child alone. Ame was not satisfied with Zongji's betrayal and vented her anger on the children. Starting from the youngest Shoji (played by Shinobu Ishii), three children disappear from Muneshige's home one by one... Adapted from the novel of the same name by the master of detective fiction, Kiyoshi Matsumoto, the story is based on real events.
