Plot Summary

During the American Civil War, white military officer Robert Gouldshaw (played by Matthew Broderick) was wounded in battle and was discovered by a gravedigger named John Rollins (played by Morgan Freeman) and taken to a field hospital. During his recovery in Boston, Robert voluntarily took on the position of commander of the "Massachusetts 54th Corps," which was composed entirely of black soldiers. However, faced with severe racial discrimination and ridicule from white colleagues, as well as various doubts from new recruit Rip (Denzel Washington), he resolutely trained a group of disorganized people who had escaped from the Southern slave system to the North into a disciplined army. The Black Army Corps led by him, the Massachusetts 54th Corps, wrote a glorious page in the Battle of Charlemagne in the South. However, Robert himself heroically sacrificed himself during the battle. The epic war film "Glory" directed by renowned Oscar winning director Edward Zwick is adapted from real events during the American Civil War. This film won many awards such as Best Supporting Actor, Best Photography and Best Sound at the 62nd Academy Awards in 1990 for its shocking description of the battle scenes and tear jerking depiction of the cruel situation of black people. Denzel Washington, who has not yet become famous, won the best supporting actor of the 47th Golden Globe Award in 1990 with this film.
