Plot Summary

The son of a wealthy businessman, Makoto Kurashiki (played by Emperor Yoshioka), has been obsessed with painting since his youth. With the bankruptcy of his father's business and the subsequent suicide of his parents, Makoto's childhood has become bleak. Nevertheless, he never gave up his dream of becoming a painter. Time flies, and in the blink of an eye, Zhenzhen Shou (played by Liu Youlian), who has grown into a young man, wanders in the world of art on his own. In order to improve his skills, he attended art school and met a group of like-minded good friends, experiencing joy, anger, sorrow, happiness, and separation with them. He often travels back and forth to the gallery, but his works are not appreciated for a long time. Only the young girl Yukiko (played by Kumiko Aso) who works in the printing factory truly understands the art of Masatoshi. As he reaches middle age, Masatoshi (played by Takeshi Kitano) remains unknown, but even in times of poverty, his wife Yukiko (played by Kenako Higuchi) is always by his side, supporting each other on this difficult artistic journey... This film won the Audience Award at the 2009 Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria.
