Description
Plot Summary
In 1918, Matsuura lived with her husband and three children in a fishing village on the coast of Toyama Prefecture. The men in the village left home one after another to fish, while the wives stayed at home and had to consume a large amount of rice every day to support their families. Matsuura's daily job is to drag bags of rice to the shore. With Japan's invasion of Siberia, rice prices began to soar. Women gathered to request rice shops to sell rice at cheap prices and tried to prevent merchants from shipping the rice, but all attempts ended in failure. After local journalists reported on the matter, the news quickly spread to media outlets across the country, causing unrest to spread nationwide. In the end, the women's patience reached its limit and they decided to take further action. The film is based on real events from the Taisho era in Japan, telling the story of an unprecedented "rice riot" initiated by women.
