Plot Summary

The story takes place in the southern part of 20th century France, where Yvonne (played by Daniel Auteuil) and her uncle Cesar (played by Yves Montand) covet the fertile land that makes the elderly man live, and finally design to kill him. What surprised the two was that the seemingly unrelated old man had a man named John (G é rard Depardieu), and John's mother was none other than the old lover whom Cesana had abandoned him. Cesana held a grudge against him and never married him throughout her life. John brought his wife Amy (played by Elisabeth Depardieu) and daughter Manon (played by Ernestine Mazurovna) to the countryside, where he was kind and completely unaware of the malice of his uncle and nephew, and lived a carefree life. Cesar cut off the water source that irrigates the earth and sky of the Ruowan family. Ruowan's fields dried up and his livestock died of thirst. In a state of anxiety, Ruowan fell ill and passed away. Sad Amy left this sad land, and Cesar and Youguolin finally got the land they wanted. However, the entanglement between these two families did not end there.
