Description

Plot Summary

In 1905, in Central, Hong Kong. Revolutionary activists were brutally assassinated. Upon learning that Sun Yat sen (played by Zhang Hanyu) was about to arrive in Hong Kong, the Qing court dispatched General Yan Xiaoguo (played by Hu Jun) to suppress and kill him. He bribed gambler Shen Chongyang (played by Donnie Yen) to become a spy. Coincidentally, the son of businessman Li Yutang (played by Wang Xueqi), Li Chongguang (played by Wang Bojie), was celebrating his school entrance examination. Shen Chongyang saw that his ex-wife Yue Ru (played by Fan Bingbing) and her young daughter had become relatives of someone else and left in sadness. In order to protect his grandson, Chen Shaobai (played by Tony Leung Ka fai), the president of China Daily, invited the theater troupe leader (played by Simon Yam) to take action and brutally exterminated his family. His wife Hong (played by Li Yuchun) narrowly survived. Chen Shaobai was captured and met Yan Xiaoguo, causing a rift between teachers and students. The unexpected events such as the capture of his only son and a friend during the parade led Li Yutang to join the revolution, which led to Detective Smith (played by Eric Tsang) sealing down the newspaper. During this time, Li Yutang helped the carriage driver A Si (played by Nicholas Tse) get engaged to his lover A Chun (played by Zhou Yun). Yueru met Shen Chongyang at night and asked him to abandon the darkness and turn to the light. Lady Hong, vendor Wang Fuming (played by Batel), beggar Liu Yubai (played by Leon Lai), and others have also joined the ranks of protecting their grandchildren. A thrilling city wide chase unfolds... With an investment of 150 million RMB, this film is the first in history to remake the 1905 Hong Kong Central in Shanghai in a 1:1 ratio.
