Plot Summary

The Legend of the Proud Horse is adapted from a true story. Penny Chenery (played by Diane Lane) was originally an ordinary housewife. She, who knew almost nothing about horse racing, took over the ranch in Virginia from her sick father amidst opposition from her brother and husband. Although the ranch had been losing money for a long time, she still had to struggle between her home state of Colorado and the state of Virginia where the ranch was located. In order to find a good horse, Penny specially sought out the retired horse trainer Lucien (played by John Malkovich), who was always complaining but treated Penny differently from the outsider. Penny immediately spotted a chestnut foal in the racecourse that could stand as soon as she rolled, and named it "Secretary". Under the personality training of Luxian, the "secretary" made a remarkable debut from the beginning. It is as fast as lightning, leaps and flies like a warrior, and even gets excited by the vibrations on the ground of the arena.
