Description
Plot Summary
The story takes place in the Midwest of the United States in the 1950s and expresses the creator's views on life by telling a typical American family story. The protagonist is an 11 year old boy named Jack (Hunter McCracken), who is one of three brothers in his family. His father (Brad Pitt) is strict and rough, and his mother (Jessica Chastain) is gentle but inactive. His brother's death changes his family. As an adult, Jack (played by Sean Penn) struggles with life. As he reflects on his life trajectory, he confronts his memories and begins to view his parents, family, and childhood from different perspectives. Eventually, he forgives his father and gains a deeper understanding of life, faith, and existence. This film won the Palme d'Or at the 64th Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography.
