Description

Plot Summary

In 19th century New York, the upper class had their own set of judgment standards and living rules, demanding dignity and propriety. Young lawyer Newland (played by Daniel Day Lewis) will step into it due to his engagement to his daughter, Lady May (played by Winona Ryder). However, on the eve of their engagement, he met Mei's cousin, Ellen, who had just returned to New York from Europe after divorce. The two became close friends at first sight and fell in love. However, Ailan's bold behavior and pursuit of self were not accepted or allowed by that upper class society. In everyone's eyes, she was an annoying monster. However, Newton realized the value of this personality and was impressed by it. If he couldn't be with the person he loved, if he lived his life not for himself but for propriety and dignity, life would be so empty and pale. Newren wanted to elope with Ellen, but Mei fell ill. Although they wanted to pursue their own happiness, these lovers who also didn't want to hurt others ultimately chose to let go. Newren and Mei got married, and Mei, who has a smooth temper, has always been at the center of innocence. However, it was not until Mei's death that they saw the other side of things.
