Plot Summary

Maria (played by Julie Andrews) is a young and lively nun who enjoys singing loudly in nature, so she often forgets the rules of the monastery. The dean believes that Maria does not belong to a strict monastery. After discussing with the other nuns, the dean decided to arrange for Maria to become a private tutor at the home of Colonel Trapp (played by Christopher Plummer). The colonel's wife passed away many years ago, leaving behind seven children. He demanded strict discipline for the children. He told Maria that none of the tutors at his home could last long because of the children's pranks. Maria was indeed played a prank, but this kind teacher did not tell their father. Instead, she took care of the child like a mother and quickly got along with them. The colonel gradually changed his attitude towards the children under Maria's guidance. The colonel and Maria developed feelings for each other, and after getting married, they returned to Austria, which had already been occupied by the Nazis.
