Description
Plot Summary
Shortly after the Soviet German partition of Poland in 1939, Polish youth Jim Sturgess was sent to a labor camp in Siberia for his alleged "anti party and anti Stalin" espionage activities. At that time, it was already 1940 in the cold Siberia, and Jonus met actor Andre, who was also a political prisoner. Andre had a long planned escape plan, and American old man Smith (played by Ed Harris), criminal Volka (played by Colin Farrell), and others joined their small circle. On a snowy night, Jonus and seven others successfully escaped from the labor camp. The only thing they knew was to head south to Lake Baikal and avoid the ubiquitous informants. Some people died in the harsh weather on the way. When they were about to arrive at Lake Baikal, a mysterious girl, Ilena (Saoirse Ronan), joined them. Her participation made them prepare to cross Mongolia, Xizang, cross the Himalayas, and reach Britain controlled India to find freedom, adding some difficulties
