Plot Summary

In the late Edo period, there was a case where the Edo family of the Akashi clan, the Old Man Palace Library (played by Naoyoshi Uchino), committed suicide in front of the residence of the Shogunate's old Nakatsui Daikaitou (played by Jiro Hiragan), causing a stir in the court and public. Everything started with the lord of Akashi Domain, Qi Zhao (played by Goro Ogaki). Qi Zhao is the half brother of the current general of the Qi family. He is bloodthirsty and tyrannical, causing dissatisfaction among many people in the court. However, Qi Zhao has been appointed as the next senior official. In order to prevent the harm caused to the common people, Tsuchii instructed Shimada Shinjo Mamoru (played by Tsukasa Hiroshi) to assassinate him on his way back to the domain. The New Left Guard Gate gathered 13 assassins, including Taira Kuranaga (played by Hiroshi Matsukata), Junjiro Sanbashi (played by Kazuki Sawamura), and Hisaburo Hirayama (played by Gosho Ihara), to lay layers of ambushes at the must pass locations of Qi Zhao... This film is a remake of the classic 1963 work of the same name by Eiichi Kudo, and the new script is written by the famous director Masahira Imamura's son, Daisuke Tenken. The film won the 4th place in the 2010 Japan Film Weekly Top Ten Films.
