Plot Summary

Bernie (played by Jack Black) is a funeral director in the small town of Carthage, Texas. He has excellent professional skills, is kind, generous, and enthusiastic about public welfare. He serves as a lead singer in church and participates in community theater performances, winning the hearts of everyone in the town. However, he remains single and is speculated to either flatter celibacy or be gay. After a wealthy businessman in town passed away, she left behind an elderly widow named Marjorie (played by Shirley MacLaine) who had a strange temper and was disliked by everyone. Bernie, based on the principle of "giving the most sincere sympathy and goodwill to every family member," enthusiastically approached Marjorie and quickly won her favor. She took care of all their entertainment expenses, allowed Bernie to participate in her property management, and even made changes to his will. Two years have passed, and Bernie, whom everyone loves, has almost become Magali's personal property. She fired all her employees and entrusted all the trivial matters in her life to Bernie. Bernie, who has a good temper, also had an outburst one day, and he ended Marjorie's life in one fell swoop, playing a scene of "Marjorie has a stroke".
