Plot Summary

In a river mouth area called Bastep, a 6-year-old girl named "Little Corn Cake" (Quvenzhan é Wallis) and her father Wink (Dwight Henry) live here. A dam isolates Bastep from the outside world, where people live a relatively primitive life. Wink, who was nearing his end, was very strict with his daughter and hoped that she would learn to survive on her own as soon as possible. A terrible hurricane swept through this small village, and their home was swallowed up by a wild beast like flood. After the great disaster, the survivors united and began to rebuild their homes. However, things are not that simple. The flood has not receded, and everything in the small village has begun to decline, with animal corpses everywhere. On the other hand, the outside world has designated this area as a mandatory evacuation zone, with relevant personnel entering the village and being forcibly taken to a shelter. Faced with a world as cruel as a wild beast, the little girl was not afraid. She believed that there was some kind of harmonious balance in the universe. Under her father's unique education, she became stronger and learned to understand the world
