Plot Summary

In the early 20th century, Bill (played by Richard Gere) was originally a factory worker who had to leave the factory due to a fight. He left Chicago with his girlfriend Abby (played by Brooke Adams) and sister Linda and found a job harvesting wheat in a wheat field in Texas. Bill and Abby disguised themselves as siblings. A young farmer (played by Sam Shepard), who is also the owner of the farm, is attracted to Abby and discovers that he has a terminal illness. In order to steal the property of the farmer, Bill made Abby marry the farmer. Unexpectedly, in their daily interactions, Abby also developed a love for the farmer. On the other hand, Abby and Bill's unusual interaction also made the farmer extremely unhappy. So Bill left the wheat field. After a while, Bill returned and the farmer could no longer bear it. He walked towards Bill with a gun in hand... This film won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography and was nominated for Best Costume, Best Original Score, and more.
