Plot Summary

The story of Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor (nominated) at the 61st Academy Awards takes place in June 1964, when a vehicle carrying three civil rights activists is hijacked by the Ku Klux Klan and there is no news from the group afterwards. Rupert (Gene Hackman) and Allen (Willem Dafoe) are two detectives from the Bureau of Investigation, assigned to investigate this heinous event. However, when they arrive in the town to begin their investigation, they find that their work is facing numerous difficulties, and no one is willing to believe them, let alone provide valuable clues. Pierre (Brad Dourif) is the deputy mayor of the town and a staunch member of the Ku Klux Klan. With a rough and evil personality, he often beats his weak and gentle wife (Frances McDormand) until she is covered in bruises. Rupert sympathized deeply with Pierre's wife's plight, and over time, Pierre's wife gradually developed feelings for Rupert, which allowed Rupert and Allen to see a breakthrough in the case.
