Plot Summary

Genevi è ve, a 17-year-old girl (played by Catherine Deneuve), is the daughter of an umbrella shop owner in Cherbourg, France; 20-year-old Guy (played by Nino Castelnuovo) is an employee of a car repair shop who lives with his aunt and her adopted daughter Madeleine (played by Ellen Farner). Genevi è ve and Guy are a couple, but their relationship has been hindered by Genevi è ve's mother. The Algerian War broke out and Guy was forced to serve two years of military service on the front lines. The night before parting, the two had a relationship.
