Description

Plot Summary

Maggie (played by Eliza Bennett) is a 12-year-old girl living in Germany who relies on her father Amo (played by Brendan Fraser) for survival. Mother Lisa (played by Sienna Guillory) mysteriously disappeared when Maggie was still in her infancy, and for over a decade, Amo relied on her old book decoration skills to sustain the lives of her father and daughter. Maggie was curious about her mother's whereabouts, while her father remained silent. The lonely little girl wanders through the sea of books every day, letting her thoughts fly. One night, a dirty and evil guy (played by Paul Bettany) broke into their father and daughter's home. Amo and their daughter hurriedly fled to their aunt Eleanor's (played by Helen Mirren) home. At this moment, Maggie finally learned the true reason for her mother's disappearance and the magical abilities her father possessed. Originally, Amo was able to bring the characters in the book to the real world through reading, which was also the beginning of the disaster... This film is adapted from the first book in the best-selling series by the famous German female writer Cornelia.
