Plot Summary

This film is adapted from the true experience of the famous Norwegian resistance group warrior Max Manus. In the late 1930s, the shadow of war enveloped the European continent, and Germany and the Soviet Union began to erode European countries from both the east and west directions. In 1940, Max Manus (played by Aksel Hennie) formed a volunteer army with many Norwegian youths to participate in the "Winter War" in Finland to prevent the Soviet Union from occupying Finland. Later, due to Germany's invasion of Norway, Manus had to return to Oslo and organize underground publications to promote anti Nazi ideas. This dangerous undertaking led to Manus being captured by the Nazis, but he managed to escape and finally arrived in Scotland, where he received rigorous training from the British. In 1943, Manus parachuted into Norway and used homemade bombs to attack German ships, thus beginning his legendary life as a mentally ill resistance hero... This film won seven major awards at the 2008 Norwegian Film Amanda Awards, including Best Film, Actor, Cinematography, and Screenplay.
