Plot Summary

Although she doesn't admit it herself, Mavis (Charlize Theron) is a standard older leftover woman. She lives alone, has no friends, eats junk food, writes junk novels, and sadly, her novels don't sell well. One day, she received an email from her ex boyfriend Buddy (played by Patrick Wilson) who was happy to be a father, but mistakenly thought it was Buddy's courtship signal to her. Mavis was overjoyed and decided to change her appearance, returning to Mercury town where she lived during her student days, to save her ex boyfriend who was trapped in the whirlpool of marriage. In Mercury Town, she met the once ridiculed chubby Matt (Patton Oswalt), who urged her to quickly give up the idea of digging walls because Buddy's life was actually very happy and fulfilling, and his wife was also a very charming housewife. Of course, Mavis didn't believe it, but unfortunately reality slapped her hard. Mavis, who had made a fool of herself in front of her old classmates, suddenly realized that Buddy's happy life made her jealous, but her own life was also the "best life" in the eyes of others. Overnight, Mavis finally transformed from a 'teenager' to a true 'adult'.
