Description

Plot Summary

In 1949, the Pacific War had already ended, and Freddie Jaquet (played by Joaquin Phoenix), who was plagued by boredom in the military, finally returned to the United States. However, the mental treatment before returning home did not provide him with practical help, and Freddie fell into a hazy and boring life experience that he could not extricate himself from. The following year, after experiencing a series of work failures, Freddie met the complex "master" Castor (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) on a passenger ship he boarded after getting drunk. Caster's psychotherapeutic approach based on the theory of time piqued Freddie's interest. Under Caster's "temptation," Freddie attempted to open up and seek solutions to his own problems, becoming increasingly close to Caster's loosely affiliated "Fate Church" organization, cheering and cracking down on dissenters. During the process of 'treatment', the relationship between Freddie and Castell became increasingly complex, with ups and downs
